Day-by-Day Itinerary

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha and driven to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park, the starting point of the trek. The drive takes less than an hour. After registration, your trek begins accompanied by an armed ranger, as you are hiking through a national park with abundant wildlife. The first day is similar to a walking safari. You can expect to see giraffes, zebras, antelope, buffalo, and potentially elephants near the trail. The path passes through open grassland before entering montane forest. You will cross the Ngarenanyuki River and pass a beautiful waterfall at the base of Mount Meru. Lunch is enjoyed at the famous Fig Tree Arch, an unusual tree formation created by the wild fig Ficus Thonningii. After lunch, the trek continues through less dense forest where you may spot black and white colobus monkeys and a variety of birds. By mid-afternoon, you will have your first closer views of the towering cliffs and the ash cone. Miriakamba Hut is reached in time to enjoy the afternoon sun and spectacular views over the surrounding plains towards Kilimanjaro. Overnight at Miriakamba Hut (2,500m). Meals: Lunch and Dinner.
